Our Curriculum

At The HiveEd we have a personalised approach to our curriculum, it has been developed through our vision of Nurturing and Inspiring Futures.  

We appreciate that every pupil that joins us is on their own individualised educational journey and they each bring different experiences to our provision. They will often have missed periods of education and have gaps in their learning; our personalised approach aims to fill those gaps and engage pupils back in to learning. Our high-quality teaching alongside bespoke interventions will promote effective learning and progress for our pupils.

The curriculum we provide is built around our four aims – Wellbeing, Academic, Citizenship and Careers. This approach allows us to adapt what we provide to meet the needs of individual pupils, whilst always incorporating all four aims in to what we offer.

Academic

We include the core subjects of Maths and English in to our curriculum as a minimum. All pupils will have access to high quality Maths and English teaching daily. Science will be incorporated in to a pupil’s timetable if appropriate to them alongside other foundation subjects. We will teach computing skills within our curriculum for all pupils and we will also include a daily session of PSHCE.

Well being  

The emotional well being of our pupils is paramount, we use a trauma informed approach to all that we do, we ensure that well being is a thread through our whole curriculum. We complete daily check ins and we work through any issues with the pupils either individually or as a group, ensuring that we use a trauma informed approach. We believe that the value of being in nature cannot be underestimated. A vital element of our curriculum is our approach to outdoor learning, which we do daily. This includes access to forest school, physical activities, sporting activities, learning in nature and fishing.

Global citizenship

Our purpose is to develop our pupils’ knowledge, skills and attributes that they will need to manage their lives both now and in the future. We want to re-engage our pupils in order that they will make a positive difference to their communities in the future. We want our pupils to understand how to make a positive impact by teaching them about the issues in the world in which we live. We will make this relevant to the pupils and their community.

Careers

We aim in our provision to develop the aspirations of our pupils through the four aims of our curriculum and by providing opportunities for them to see a different pathway through life. We aim for our pupils to experience different career paths and training and have access to some opportunities and work experience. Our curriculum is personalised so we will seek opportunities dependent on the pupil’s individual interests.
